Pianist Ivo Kahánek Embarks on a Grand Tour of Japan

Concluding a series of concerts at the Czech Republic the pianist Ivo Kahánek embarks only in a few days on a grand tour. Joining the Brno Philharmonic under Leoš Svárovský he will perform the masterpiece of the Slavonic school of pianism – Piano Concerto no. 1 in b flat minor by Piort Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

The pianist will meet the Japanese audience nine times in the span of three weeks in the nine most prestigious concert halls, e.g. the Tokyo Opera City (1 November) or the Hokuto Bunka Kainkan (Nagano, 5 November).

“It is my first time in Japan. I am looking forward immensely to the reactions of the audience which is known for being a strict, yet very knowledgeable listener and arbiter”, states Ivo Kahánek, whose music over 15 thousand concert goers will listen to.

Ivo Kahánek is considered by many to be the best Czech pianist of the present day. He is the absolute winner of the Prague Spring 2004 competition, having had a number of successful performances: with BBC Symphony Orchestra at the BBC Proms; at the Wigmore Hall with the Pavel Haas Quartet or together with the Berlin Philharmonic under Sir Simon Rattle. In 2015 he was the main protagonist and curator of the chamber music line of the Dvořák’s Prague festival. He is now embarking on a three-week tour of Japan with the Brno Philharmonic.
