Jakub Hrůša and Bamberg Symphony Win German Record Critics’ Prize for Mahler: Symphony No. 4

  • Jakub Hrůša and Bamberg Symphony Win German Record Critics’ Prize for Mahler: Symphony No. 4

Chief Conductor Jakub Hrůša and Bamberg Symphony’s acclaimed recording of Mahler’s Wunderhorn Symphony No. 4 in G Major, with mezzo-soprano Anna Lucia Richter (accentus music / Naxos), has won the 2021 German Record Critics’ Prize (Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik).

Hrůša  writes, “I’m truly delighted my beloved orchestra, the Bamberger Symphoniker, Anna Lucia Richter und I have been just awarded the ‘Jahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik’ for our Mahler 4 recording. It was the very first symphonic thing we did after the first lockdown in 2020 together with hosting our international Mahler Competition in Bamberg, and it meant a lot to all of us. I’m endlessly proud of what we achieved as a team. I hear how precious that moment was. The orchestra fulfilled all musical dreams I had in Mahler, and offered me even more. We breathe the same musical air – Mahler is our homeland. And his art a great and eternal encouragement for all times, difficult or splendid. His music embraces every aspect of life.”
